Smart Phone Safety and Parenting
I recently attended the Child Psychiatry in Primary Care Conference though the UVM Larner College of Medicine. One presentation was on smart phone use among teens and children (presenters: Laura Wainer and Stephanie Bless). Below are some safety and monitoring resources gained from this presentation that I would like to share with you:
-Apps that enable a parent or guardian a range of monitoring services for their child's smart phone. Some of the apps protect the child's privacy but will still notify parent what the general monitoring is noticing by sending you a text message. Others set digital ground rules that the family agrees on and set parameters on your child's phone. Some of the apps have a fee.
-Website https://www.commonsensemedia.org/ that "...empowers parents, teachers, and policymakers by providing unbiased information, trusted advice, and innovative tools to help them harness the power of media and technology as a positive force in all kids’ lives"
